Butterfly Species (Pachliopta aristolochiae)

Distinctive Features: P. aristolochiae has a medium-sized body with wings predominantly black in color, adorned with faint white patterns on the forewings. The hindwings feature a central white pattern and reddish markings near the edges. The hindwings also have a tail-like extension resembling a spatula. The body of P. aristolochiae is medium-sized, red in color, with the dorsal side black.

Behavior: P. aristolochiae is commonly seen active around midday, flying slowly. The caterpillars of P. aristolochiae feed on the forest betel plant.

General Distribution: Sri Lanka, Indo-China, India up to China, the Malay Peninsula, Palawan, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, the Philippines, Kalimantan, Maluku, and the Lesser Sunda Islands.

Host Plants: Forest betel (Aristolochia tagala) from the family Aristolochiaceae, and Zanthoxylum rhetsa.
